Each year, Glyndebourne identifies a group of outstanding members of the chorus to participate in the Jerwood Young Artists Programme. We are delighted that Glyndebourne has agreed for them to participate in our Masterclass. This will provide an opportunity to witness young singers preparing for a diversity of music and roles coached by the renowned Dame Ann Murray, who will bring a wealth of experience from her outstanding career in the concert hall and on the operatic stage. |

| Lars Vogt has rapidly established himself as one of the leading pianists of his generation. Born in the German town of Düren in 1970, he first came to public attention when he won second prize at the 1990 Leeds International Piano Competition and has since gone on to give major concerto and recital performances throughout Europe, Asia, Australia and North and South America. An EMI recording artist, Lars Vogt has made fifteen discs for the label, including the Hindemith Kammermusik No 2 with the Berlin Philharmonic/Claudio Abbado, the Schumann, Grieg and the first two Beethoven Concertos with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra/Sir Simon Rattle, who has described him as "one of the most extraordinary musicians of any age group that I have had the fortune to be associated with". During the 2011/12 season Lars Vogt will make several appearances in North America, performing with orchestras in Toronto, Pittsburgh, Cleveland and Seattle and undertaking an extensive tour with Christian Tetzlaff to New York, Philadelphia and other major cities. Concerts with the London Philharmonic Orchestra feature prominently both with Vladimir Jurowski in London and on tour in the UK and Germany with Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Other concerto engagements include the New Japan Philharmonic/Daniel Harding, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France/Myung-Whun Chung, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande, Rotterdam Philharmonic, National Orchestra of Spain and orchestras in Berlin, Hamburg, Cologne, Milan, Florence and Copenhagen. Recital appearances feature the International Piano Series in London and the Konzerthaus, Vienna. For his programme at MMF, Lars will perform works by Haydn, Larcher, and Brahms, concluding with Chopin Piano Sonata No.2 in B flat minor. |

| The Heath Quartet is rapidly emerging as an exciting and original voice on the international chamber music scene. Selected for representation by YCAT in 2008 they went on to win 1st Prize at the Tromp Competition in Eindhoven and 2nd Prize at the Haydn Competition in Vienna. In 2011 they were awarded a Borletti-Buitoni Special Ensemble Scholarship and undertook two complete Beethoven Quartet cycles at the Fàcyl Festival in Salamanca Spain and at Greyfriars Church in Edinburgh.
Engagements during the 2011/12 season include recitals at Wigmore Hall as part of the Emerging Talent scheme, including the premiere of a new work by Luke Bedford and collaborations with Stephen Hough and Ian Bostridge. They make their debut at the Kissingen Winterzauber Festival in Germany, the deSingel Arts Centre in Antwerp as part of a Britten Day, return to the Netherlands and Banff, tour throughout Argentina and record their second CD of quartets by Janacek and Schulhoff. Future plans include complete Tippett and Bartók cycles at Wigmore Hall. They will be joined in the Dvorak by James Bailleu, described by The Daily Telegraph as 'in a class of his own'. He has been the prize-winner of the Wigmore Hall, Das Lied, Kathleen Ferrier and Richard Tauber Song Competitions, and has given solo and chamber recitals throughout Europe, recording for BBC Radio 3 with the Elias Quartet and Allan Clayton. He has also collaborated with Sir Thomas Allen, Katherine Broderick, Mark Padmore, Pumeza Matshikiza, Gerard Collett, Marcus Farnsworth and the Heath Quartet, among many others. | 27th May at 3pm - A vocal recital by tenor Allan Clayton including works by Purcell, Schubert and Britten. Allan Clayton studied at St John’s College, Cambridge and at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The BBC invited Allan to join the New Generation Artist scheme from 2007-2009, and in 2008 he received both the John Christie Award for his Glyndebourne Festival debut as Albert Herring, and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Fellowship. On stage, Allan’s roles have included Ferrando/Così fan tutte at the New York City Opera, Royal Opera House, Opera North, and the Glyndebourne Festival; Bénédict/Béatrice et Bénédict for Opéra Comique, Paris; Lysander/A Midsummer Night’s Dream for English National Opera; Belmonte/Die Entführung aus dem Serail, Camille/Die Lüstige Witwe, and Lampwick in the world premiere of Jonathan Dove’s The Adventures of Pinocchio for Opera North; the title role in Albert Herring for the Glyndebourne Festival and Opéra Comique, Paris. This season’s engagements have already included a highly acclaimed role debut as Castor/Castor et Pollux for English National Opera, Berlioz’s L’Enfance du Christ on tour with the Britten Sinfonia and Sir Mark Elder. Commitments for the rest of the season include Beethoven’s 9th Symphony, both with the Scottish Chamber and on an extensive tour of Australia with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, and the world premiere of George Benjamin’s opera Written on Skin at the 2012 Festival de Aix-en-Provence. He has been fortunate to work with many outstanding pianists including Paul Lewis, Graham Johnson, Malcolm Martineau, Roger Vignoles, Julius Drake, James Baillieu, Simon Lepper, and Joseph Middleton. His recordings include a Gramophone-nominated Otello for LSO Live, a CD and DVD of Handel’s Messiah for EMI.
